JASA OFFICERS TO BE EQUIPPED WITH LAPTOPS TO COMBAT LIES ONLINE

KUCHING, April 25 (Bernama) - All Special Affairs Department (Jasa) officers will be equipped with laptop computers and broadband modems as tools to address people''s issues on the internet. Jasa director-general Datuk Fuad Hassan said the equipment are needed to counter efforts by certain parties who use online social media to influence the people''s minds. "The equipment will allow Jasa officers to answer issues (raised by the opposition) to poison the people''s minds wherever they are," he said when opening ''Program Segulai Sejalai (Seiring Sejalan) for volunteers and Jasa officers in Santubong today. He said the challenges of Jasa officers are no longer limited to explaining the current situation in the field but also to explain government policies via the social media. "Unike in previous years, the role of Jasa officers is not fighting communism and religious extremism.
